'Chesapeake Psalter'

The Chesapeake Chorale

will present "A Chesapeake Psalter"

The concert will feature Igor Stravinsky's "Symphony of Psalms," psalm settings by Mendelssohn, Bloch, Rutter and more, and C. Hubert Parry's "I Was Glad When They Said Unto Me," a piece which became a worldwide sensation after it was premiered at the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana.

Astronomy Day

Howard B. Owens Science Center

, 9601 Greenbelt Road, Lanham, will host Astronomy Day

Saturday, May 10, from 2 to 10 p.m.

Astronomy Day is a worldwide effort to share the wonders of astronomy with the public. This year marks a special time in Prince George's County, as three organizations will be combining efforts on Astronomy Day. The Astronomical Society of Greenbelt, Howard B. Owens Science Center

and NASA Goddard Space Flight Center's Visitor Center

will work cooperatively to bring the heavens down to Earth. ASG members will set up telescopes at Owens (weather permitting) for safe views of the sun, moon and Saturn. Projects for children will take place indoors, such as making a sundial out of paper. Additional presentations will take place in the planetarium, including star shows. At the visitor center, you can see a fantastic exhibit called Science On a Sphere. A shuttle will operate between Owens and the visitor center.

Philharmonic

Prince George's Philharmonic

will perform Saturday, May 10, at 8 p.m. at Prince George's Community College. Mozart Symphony No. 32, K. 318, G Major, Mozart Piano Concerto No. 23, K. 488, A Major and Dvorak Symphony No. 7, Op. 70, D Minor will be featured.

Tea lessons

Tea lessons

for young ladies ages 8-12 will be offered Saturday from 1-2:30 p.m. at Darnall's Chance House Museum

After the lesson, participants will demonstrate what they have learned by partaking in their own tea party. Following tea, instruction will be given in the finer points of 18th century dance.

Montpelier Festival

Vendors of fragrant herbs, fine arts, handmade items like baskets, garden accessories, jewelry and more, live music and tea and scones in the mansion will be featured. Visit artists in their studios and see a variety of art exhibits. Tour the mansion, enjoy lunch, take in a lecture. There will be Colonial games, art projects, a live animal exhibit and more for children.

Children's Day

Riversdale House Museum

Sunday beginning at noon. The day honors all things fun about childhood in the early 19th century, including puppet shows, games and amusements, live animals, Maypole dancing, crafts and cooking demonstrations. Troubadour John DuRant will provide whimsical music. The mansion will be open for child-oriented tours. Period inspired refreshments and children's delights will be available for purchase.

Anthem auditions

The city of Bowie will hold auditions to perform the national anthem

at city-sponsored events Saturday, May 10, from 1 to 2 p.m. at City Hall. Participants should come prepared to perform the National Anthem and one other piece a cappella for a judging panel. Appointments can be made by calling 301-809-3078. Walk-ins are welcome, however, you must sign up before 1 p.m.

from 2:15 to 3:30 p.m. Announcing opportunities include events such as Bowiefest, the July 4th celebration, and Bowie International Festival.
