Soccer

The BSU U13 Screaming Eagles defeated the Prince William Soccer Club, 3-0, in NCSL Division-II action.

Led by Josh LeMaster's pair of goals and another from Herrison Ambe, the Eagles never looked back after taking the lead in the second half.

With a scoreless deadlock at halftime, keeper Brady Mazzei and the defense of Kevin McGowan, Wes Suggs, Kyle Jackson, Matt Kahn and Bonaventure Akinlosotu shut down the PWSC offense. The midfield of Claudius Taylor, Ryan Bliss, Bill Kerr, Andrew Klotz and Connor Bliss played strong at the median.

LeMaster began the scoring three minutes into the second half when he beat the PWSC defense and entered a one-on-one with the goalkeeper. LeMaster quickly dribbled around the keeper and tapped the score into the goal. Five minutes later, Ambe followed from 15 yards out. LeMaster's final goal was a blast from 18 yards out. Assists were contributed by Ryan Bliss, Rodrigo Villordo and Julien Baxter.

SBBGC boys county U8 Sharks dished out a major upset to the Marlboro No. 1 team by defeating the opposition, 6-1. The SBBGC team played extremely well together. Evan Carter scored four precision goals, accompanied by solo goals from Neerav Ganjoo and Akash Shetty.

Playing a man down in the first half and without any subs in the second, the BBGC boys U12 Strikers battled the St. Jane Soccer Association Badd Boyz in a hard-fought match, but ultimately came up short, 3-2. The Strikers fell behind by two goals early in the first half to a St. Jane club with a deep bench, which was used to maintain a pressing offense. Toward the end of the first half, the Striker offense, consisting of frontline players Bayode Malcom-Parker, Terrance Porter, Turner Roberts and Diran Balogun, along with midfielders Griffin Devlin, Alan Robinson and Kenneth Chigbue, began to challenge the St. Jane defense, resulting in a goal by Malcom-Parker. Playing full strength in the second half, the Strikers pushed the ball deep into their opponent's territory and came close several times to tying the game. The Badd Boyz were able to score once more before Malcom-Parker found the net again on an assist from Tyler Hicks. An excellent defensive effort by Hicks, Gabriel Higgs and Dosh Jackson and several key saves by keeper Alex Peltier kept the game close.

Baseball

By the bottom of the sixth inning Pius had pulled to within a pair of runs, but then fell behind by three as the bottom of the seventh and final inning concluded. Pius ended the game with two runners on base.

Leading the way for St. Pius was Danny McCrea, who went 5 for 5 from the plate with four home runs and 11 RBI. McCrea also made several nice plays at shortstop. In the field, Brendan Flaherty, playing shortstop for St. Pius, came up with a tough catch of a hard-hit line drive and then alertly tagged third, catching the lead runner off the base for the second St. Pius double play of the season.
